Web Design Penguicon - 2016, 2015, and 2014

Detail:

  • 35 pages in 2016, not including frequent posts
  • Customized WordPress

For three years, I planned and maintained the WordPress implementation of the annual conference Penguicon.

I designed a style guide for all graphic media for the event, and then worked with that style guide to modify the templates we used.

The site maps were designed to make available all of the most important detail for conference attendees, from registering and hotel accommodations to programming and Guests of Honor bios.

Throughout the year, I updated it with new Press Kits and information about evolving aspects of the event, like the Maker Market and program descriptions.

As the Head of Communications for the organization, I planned a posting strategy to maximize interest from our attendees throughout the year, and either wrote or approved approved every release by my Communications team.  Once posted, that information was disseminated through social media, with frequent engagement from our fans on Facebook.

When I was first contacted by CCBC, their site was running on a content management system that no one inside the company knew how to use.  The site also showed signs of having been maliciously hacked.

After multiple photo shoots, we had plenty of real world, non-stock assets to humanize an organization dedicated to saving lives.

We then worked together to totally redesign the site from scratch into a modern, mobile-friendly, dynamic layout using standard tools that anyone could pick up quickly. I created a unique template for them, which would allow for easy software and style updates, potentially saving CCBC money every year.

Makemetal Signs

MakeMetal Signs was my first foray into working both with a client and their freelance operations manager.

The owner of the company had a strong pre-existing vision he wanted to see implemented, with specific touches he had planned before we met, including some set graphics pieces.

I planned out the site structure for them and pulled it all together with a combination of Adobe Muse and hand coding the site.

NetLaw

Solved, Inc. was looking for a front end to the portal for their client's lawyer-focused conferencing application, NetLaw.

After a few consultations to determine the style, layout, and structure, I designed and assembled a web product that had a warm, inviting appeal, which the client loved.

In this case, the client was looking to get a web site up immediately, with as little turnaround time as possible.

Once we had a plan laid out, I was able to make very quick changes to present them with a site which both met all their needs and made the client happy.
