One of the most effective changes I implemented when I became Head of Communications for Penguicon was to create unmistakably large vertical signs for the many stations and permanent events taking place throughout the weekend.

 

Previously, we created small signage each year and hoped for the best.  For the past few years we've had far fewer questions during the event about where to find Registration, Operations, or even the convention's hospitality suite, because the signage is unmissable.  Though I had used Adobe Illustrator on other projects, including logo design, I really learned a lot through the sign-making process.

 

Instead of using a photo for the background, every element is a vector shape to keep the starscape background sharp.
